Dr Coralie English is an Associate Professor at the School of Health Sciences, University of Newcastle and a Deputy Director of the Priority Research Centre for Stroke and Brain Injury, Hunter Medical Research Institute. She holds a National Heart Foundation Future Leaders Fellowship, and is a Senior Research Affiliate with the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Stroke Rehabilitation and Brain Recovery. She is an experienced physiotherapy clinician, having worked for many years predominately in the area of stroke and neurological rehabilitation prior to commencing her research career. A/Prof English’s work focuses on the importance of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on recovery of function and long-term well being of stroke survivors. Her earlier work focused on methods of increasing therapy time and active task practice for stroke survivors receiving in-hospital rehabilitation, including the use of circuit class therapy and 7-day week therapy services. She currently leads a team of researchers whose work focuses on understanding the effects of physical activity, aerobic exercise and sedentary behaviours in people after stroke.
