A practical workshop open to string players of all levels. The workshop approach and coverage will be adapted to the capabilities and interests of the participants, with each string player receiving direction on their playing through regular opportunities to practice.

Course Content

Topics covered include:

  • Fundamentals of string playing, practice techniques, interpretation and ensemble work.
  • How to enhance bow control and phrasing, quality of sound, variety of tone production and increasing sensitivity to intonation issues .
  • Choosing repertoire, identifying and resolving technical problems; interpretative issues; program construction and the development of musical memory.
  • Managing stage fright, blend and balance, awareness of historical performance practices.
