This lean course will take you on a fast paced journey, into the culture and principles that underpin lean and will prepare you for your Green Belt examination. This lean course will enable you to increase efficiency, productivity and overall performance within an organisation by preserving value with less waste. This lean course will equip you with working knowledge on how to apply the lean tools of Value Stream Map, 5S, 8W’s, Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys), Creative Problem Solving & Poke Yoke (Mistake Proofing).

In this lean course the Green Belt training will cover the basis for DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) & DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify) and how to lead a team when this methodology is being utilised. The statistical and leadership platforms that define a Green Belt will be explained in this lean course to help you apply this methodology. This content will also be useful if you subsequently choose to sit the Green Belt accreditation examination.

The basis of Lean

  • The cultural basis of Lean – a respectful, team based approach for preserving value with less waste and fewer process steps.
  • The Lean Transformation Model.
  • The benefits of Lean.
  • Kaizen and the importance of teams.
  • Defining wasteful processes and how to truly deliver value.

The tools of Lean

  • A working understanding of lean tool – the 5S, the 8 W’s, Root Cause Analysis, Poke Yoke and the Value Stream Map.
  • Worked examples of achieving value added outcomes using lean tools.

Leading a lean team

  • Leadership behaviours in a Lean Enterprise.
  • Asking and building trust through a “grass-roots” approach.
  • Providing resources and enabling the team to set its own direction for its nominated Kaizen.

Green Belt leadership training

  • The people enablers for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Developing a continuous improvement culture.
  • Application of DMAIC and DMADV methodologies.
  • Lean in action – Australian based case studies.

The statistical foundations of Green/ Black Belt

  • Setting upper and lower tolerances.
  • Measuring variance around the mean, including 3 Sigma and 6 Sigma calculations.
  • Statistical Process Control.
  • Pareto Analysis (80:20 rule).
  • Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
  • Sampling Techniques.
  • Hypothesis testing and statistical inference.
  • Data visualisation and infographics.
  • Total Quality Maintenance.

Intended Audience

This lean course is designed for managers, supervisors and team members interested in applying lean principles, improving performance in their workplace and removing waste. This lean course is suitable for those seeking a refresher in lean, Green Belt and DMAIC & DMADV tools or professionals who are seeking to add lean and Green Belt skills to their toolkit.

Delivery Style

This lean course will be delivered as an interactive workshop consisting of an instructor-led lecture, group and individual activities. This training approach allows participants to work through concepts introduced by the instructor in an application-focused teaching environment. Participants will challenge their understanding of the concepts and consider their application once back in their individual workplace. The content covered in this lean course will prepare you for the Green Belt accreditation exam however please note that the green belt exam is not offered as part of this course.
