This French course for beginners is a French language course designed for anyone with little or no French background wanting to develop their French language skills. This beginners French course aims at providing a real insight into the French culture and society as it develops your skills in reading, writing, comprehension and speaking.

Whether you are learning for work or pleasure, learning the French language requires not only sound knowledge of its grammatical structures and lexical aspects, but a deep understanding of the French culture and social interaction rules. Those wishing to speak French will need to acquire new vocabulary, practise their pronunciation and learn how to structure a sentence. In order to use that practical knowledge efficiently, they will also need to be able to use the correct forms of the French language in any given situation, and understand how to interact properly with French native speakers.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this French course you will:

  1. Be able to have a simple conversation with French native speakers:
    1. introduce yourself.
    2. ask and answer basic questions about yourself.
    3. fill out a form in French and make a purchase.
  2. Have a better understanding on how to socially interact with French people, using the correct forms of addressing someone.

Course Content

This French course for beginners will cover the following:

  • Greeting someone.
  • Introducing yourself and someone else.
  • Spelling key words or phrases.
  • The names of countries.
  • Giving and requesting personal information.
  • Asking questions politely and asking for the price of an item.
  • Counting and using numbers.
  • Talking about one’s tastes, dreams and passions.

Intended Audience

This French course is designed for anyone wanting to develop French language skills and gain valuable insights and knowledge about the French contemporary culture. This language course is ideal for people who have no or little prior French language knowledge.

Delivery Style

This French course for beginners is facilitated in full French immersion and taught by an experienced native-speaking French instructor. The teaching method is interactive and practical, giving students an opportunity to practice real-life situations in the classroom and acquire practical skills efficiently.

Prescribed Text

This French language course is based on Units 0 – 1 of the following text with the subsequent units from within this text covered in our French Level 2 class. This text(s) will be used during in-class activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice between meetings.

Prescribed textbooks should only be purchased after confirmation is received from us that the course will proceed. This usually occurs up to 5 days prior to class commencement.
