Develop a culture of professional coaching within your school or organisation. This educational coaching course is designed for any school or organisation leader or human resource professional interested in developing professional development programs based on teacher observation. Currently, within several Australian jurisdictions, following international trends, school leaders are now expected to use teacher observation as part of their overall duties relating to teacher development. This educational coaching course will outline the current state of the field, summarising what research from overseas is finding about teacher observations, inclusive of:

  1. its technical limitations and requirements and
  2. its relationship to other forms of teacher performance measures, and
  3. known issues relating to ethics and the micro-politics of schools.

From this background the course will discuss the need for leaders to think diagnostically and strategical in developing their own procedures and models of teacher observation, building from the direct experiences of the presenter in working with teachers in NSW schools using the NSW Quality Teaching model. This will directly inform school leaders in their expanding role as instructional leaders in schools.
